Highground Engineering was formed in 1999 to meet the challenging requirement of providing to the building industry a professional remedial engineering service.
Our goal is that our Clients will receive the best facade engineering advice, competitive construction costs and that their project will be carefully planned and meticulously repaired by a skilled workforce based in Sydney, New South Wales.
The core business of Highground Engineering has always been the repair of leaking windows and cladding panels to high rise buildings throughout Sydney.
Today, this has expanded and includes other fields of facade engineering and the refurbishment industry.
- Over-cladding of existing building facade systems which rectifies leaks, greatly extends the life of the building and enhances its appearance.
- Removal and replacement of aluminium windows and balcony doors to occupied high rise apartment buildings.
- Removal and replacement of balcony balustrades to occupied apartment and commercial buildings.
- Design and construct of structural frameless glass assemblies.

During the planning of a repair project we know from experience that the building is often occupied. The safety and comfort of occupants is paramount to the success of any project.
We appreciate how critically important it is to building owners that the construction activity is planned to minimize its impact upon the building occupants.
Highground has developed high rise access systems and methods of working with our skilled workforce that met these important requirements.
We bring to your project our expertise in methods of restricting dust and noise pollution entering the building, and independent access to the work face by our trades.
Founding Director: Mike Ayres
Mike, a Chartered Structural Engineer, has over 30 years professional experience in the construction industry and worked in England and the Middle East before emigrating to Australia.
Prior to setting up Highground Engineering in 1999, Mike was the State Manager of a large Consulting Engineer practice and recognised the gap in the remedial industry for a Contractor specializing in the repair of aluminium windows and cladding panels to high rise buildings.
Mike has a strong structural design background from his initial 15 years in the design offices of several Consulting Engineers but the challenge of the practical side of the industry is his passion.
Working with two of Sydney’s largest Building Contractors gave him the opportunity to develop his interest in high rise facade work.
In the past 15 years, Mike has been responsible for the over cladding of three university buildings at UNSW together with the complete strip down and reclad of the 12 storey Garvan Medical Research Building in 2012.
Other notable buildings include the facade refurbishment of the 20 storey Reserve Bank of Australia in 2002, followed by the replacement of all windows and balcony doors to the 22 storey Longwood Apartments in Darling Point.
Quality of service is long remembered and past clients have no difficulty in remembering a job well done under Mike’s leadership.
The Total Contract Package
Highground can deliver the total contract package which includes the diagnostic engineering assessment of the facade, the remedial design with detailed specifications, and the completion of the contract works with engineering certification.
Where required, we supply and install all structural steel and secondary steel framing to support the facade cladding.
We supply all certified mobile access platforms, fixed scaffolding or swinging stage equipment together with material hoists.
